(EN) – Glossary for Music Appreciation | Larry Ferrara

Snap14.png

Music Appreciation is an exploration in the materials and masterworks of great music, from Medieval Chant to Contemporary Popular styles. Students begin by studying the elements of music (pitch, melody, rhythm, harmony, form, etc.) then learn about the instruments of the orchestra and build a comprehensive vocabulary with which to understand and evaluate musical expression. From there, they survey the continuum of musical history in Western Civilization, from the Middle Ages through the present time. Along the way the student will become aware of musical form, the great works and composers of Classical music and in ultimately by the end become a better music listener.

(MULTI) – IATE Term of the week: perseids | TermCoord

meteor-shower-700x227.jpg

Perseids is an astronomical phenomenon of a meteor shower appearing in August and radiating from a point in the constellation Perseus. You can see the Perseids every year – if the sky is clear and there is no light pollution – during the second week of August. This year the Perseids are visible during the weekend of the 11th and 12th of August. The constellation of Perseus is a constellation in the northern sky.

The name of Perseids take us back to Greek mythology and in particular to Perseus (/ˈpɜːrsiəs, -sjuːs/; Greek: Περσεύς). According to Paussanias (/pɔːˈseɪniəs/; Greek: Παυσανίας), Perseus was the founder of Mycenae. Furthermore, Perseus was the son of Zeus and Danaë. Legend has that Perseus built Mycenae in …

What purpose does the EU serve? Why and how was it set up? How does it work? What has it already achieved for its citizens, and what new challenges does it face today? In a globalised world, can the EU compete successfully with other major economies while maintaining its social standards? How can immigration be managed? What will Europe’s role be on the world stage in the years ahead? Where will the EU’s boundaries be drawn? And what future is there for the euro? These are just some of the questions explored by EU expert Pascal Fontaine in this 2017 edition of his popular booklet Europe in 12 lessons. (IT) (PDF) – Tecnologie del dominio: lessico minimo di autodifesa digitale | Ippolita

Snap7.png

(IT) (LA) – Latino quotidiano: 180 espressioni latine che usiamo in italiano | Annamaria Testa

Home_latino.jpg

Latino quotidiano.

(MULTI) – IATE Term of the week: eclipse | TermCoord

eclipse3-250x209.jpg

The word eclipse has its roots in the ancient Greek word ἔκλειψις (ékleipsis), modern Greek έκλειψη [gr. éklipsi]. The noun is a combination of the Greek prefix ek- (gr. εκ-) which means “out” and the verb leipo (gr. λείπω) which means “to be absent”, “to be missing”, “gone”. Eclipse is a phenomenon in which an astronomical body passes between two astronomical objects or into the shadow of an astronomical object having as a result not being visible or losing its shining/brightness.

There are two types of eclipses. The first one is the solar eclipse in which the Moon’s shadow crosses the Earth’s surface, and the second one is when the Moon moves into the Earth’s shadow (lunar eclipse). Furthermore, both the lunar and the solar eclipse can be divided into three subcategories each. The solar eclipse can be a total solar eclipse, a partial solar eclipse or an …
