A Serbian dictionary of recent anglicisms
Ovo je bio uvodni odeljak u autorskom predgovoru za Du yu speak anglo-srpski? Rečnik novijih anglicizama (Vasić, Prćić i Nejgebauer 2001, 2011, 2018), pre tačno dvadeset godina. Tokom protekle dve decenije na ovom pla-nu suštinski se ništa nije promenilo, jedino što svega onog ilustrovanog u tom odeljku ima mnogo više: sve noviji i noviji anglicizmi ‘nesmanjenom žestinom’ i dalje pristižu u srpski jezik, gde se u govoru i pisanju, uz minimalne izuzetke, uglavnom koriste proizvoljno, bez ikakvog sistema, dok se anglosrpski ‘jezik’, takođe ‘nesmanjenom žestinom’, i dalje širi i buja u skoro svim sferama današ-nje komunikacije i na svim nivoima upotrebe srpskog jezika. Spontano razvi-jana, i razvijena, ‘pravila’ anglosrpske pseudonorme (kao da) bacaju u zasenak običan, normalan, standardni srpski jezik, koji (kao da) se povlači, ako ne i uzmiče, pred naletom nepisanih i nepismenih, ali sve zastupljenijih, anglosrp-skih jezičkih navika, nastalih, s jedne strane, zbog uticaja engleskog jezika, u savremenom svetu u dvojnoj funkciji opšteg zajedničkog jezika (engl. English as a lingua franca) i odomaćenog stranog jezika (engl. English as the nativi-zed foreign language), i, s druge strane, zbog decenijama dopuštane sistemske nebrige i neodgovornosti prema delatnom učenju, negovanju i znanju valjanog Sadu10srpskog jezika, naročito onih koji su po prirodi svog posla u situaciji da svojim jezičkim ponašanjem i upotrebom jezika mogu da utiču, i redovno utiču, na jezičko ponašnje i upotrebu jezika onih koji ih slušaju ili čitaju.

Välj gärna en tvättmaskin som har så hög centrifugeringshastighet som möjligt, gärna 1600 varv/min, eftersom ett högre varvtal ger torrare tvätt och därmed minskad energiåtgång åt att torka tvätten.

The Historical Thesaurus of Scots (HTS) is a new online resource which aims to categorise the vocabulary of Scots, from the earliest records to the present, according to semantic field. This pilot website was launched in September 2015. It focuses on two categories that are rich in Scots vocabulary: weather and sports & games. The HTS project is currently seeking more funding in order to continue our work.

A number of people have asked us why we have gone to all this trouble to put a hundred-year-old dictionary on the World Wide Web. The answer can be summed up in three words: it’s free, it’s big, and it’s beautiful. Not long after I finished working for the Oxford English Dictionary and started working with the DjVu development group at AT&T Labs, I realized that the DjVu format offered exciting, new possibilities for publishing dictionaries and other large-scale reference works online. A handful of experimental samples that I created for the DjVu Zone website confirmed this, and my wife and I began to consider how, with limited personal resources and working in our spare time, something on this scale might actually be done. Obviously, we needed a text in the public domain, and several candidates immediately suggested themselves.
We could have chosen (and indeed might still do someday) an early dictionary of chiefly historical interest, such as Dr. Johnson’s, the early Webster’s, or Joseph Worcester’s dictionaries. All these texts are relatively small, which might have made the digitization process easier, but such works are of interest and use chiefly to scholars and would arouse only limited curiosity among the general public.
