(EN) – Introduction to Distillation | M.T. Tham

Distillation is defined as:

a process in which a liquid or vapour mixture of two or more substances is separated into its component fractions of desired purity, by the application and removal of heat.

Distillation is based on the fact that the vapour of a boiling mixture will be richer in the components that have lower boiling points.

Therefore, when this vapour is cooled and condensed, the condensate will contain more volatile components. At the same time, the original mixture will contain more of the less volatile material.

Distillation columns are designed to achieve this separation efficiently.

Although many people have a fair idea what “distillation” means, the important aspects that …”

Welcome to the Drugtext Information Center on Substance Use, Dependence, Harm Reduction, International & National Drug Policy.

We have recently acquired the former ISDD library (UK) and are in the process of digitizing the contents of this library. Soon we will also start digitizing the contents of the former NIAD (NL) and many other European and International substance use related libraries and collections.
A vast amount of full text books, articles, manuals, readers, handbooks, grey literature and reports is being added constantly so we advise visitors to regularly check the articles, books, reports and other categories.
Please check the “New” pages for recent additions…. and the press pages for press clippings
All articles, books, reports, legal texts, manuals and other documents in the drugtext library are in html format, this is done in order for search engines to be able to query inside documents where the pdf format does not support such functionality
We try and make all drugtext documents available in 3 ways; in this Content Management System, in the PDF format and as classic non cms html.”

(EN) – Basic Terminology of Stereochemistry | G. P. Moss

“The full text of the IUPAC basic terminology of stereochemistry.

This is a glossary of the more important, and most widely-used, stereochemical terms. It extends the list of those defined in the IUPAC Nomenclature of Organic Chemistry, Section E: Stereochemistry (Recommendations 1974) and includes some terms from the Glossary of Terms used in Physical Organic Chemistry (Recommendations 1994). Additional terms have been added from inorganic and macromolecular chemistry. Some misleading terms are included together with guidance on correct usage or acceptable alternatives.

Many of the symbols used in stereochemical nomenclature are mentioned but details of their assignment or their incorporation into chemical names are left to the appropriate recommendations. Terminology related to techniques used in the determination of stereochemistry are largely excluded as well as terms used to describe reaction mechanisms.”

The world’s largest database of wine knowledge

The wine glossary is the largest online wine-related data base in the world. It is structured just like a classical encyclopaedia, and consists of keywords (terms) and entries (texts) that explain these keywords.

To search for keywords in the glossary, enter the desired word in the field „Keyword search“, then click onto „Display results“. The system will then search the glossary for appropriate keywords, and will display the search results. These are sorted according to relevance, i.e. the degree of correspondence, the searched-for keyword will appear first, followed by all terms, in descending order of relevance, that contain the keyword. The entry of search terms is not case sensitive, and special symbols or forms of letters need not be considered, e.g. a search for „cote du rhone“ will lead to a result, as will a specific search for „Côtes du Rhône“. In many cases, small typographical errors will be tolerated, as the system provides synonyms.”
