(MULTI) – Multilingual Dictionary of MARC 21 Terms | NALIS foundation

This dictionary is intended not only for the library community, but also for thосе translators and interpreters who deal with certain library and information topics. Its aim is to present in parallel both accepted and tentative terms in 6 languages (apart from the original English). The dictionary is based on translations of the American MARC 21 and, therefore, the English terms are in its first column.

The first stage in the work – excerpting terms from Understanding MARC Bibliographic was prepared by Ekaterina Dikova (English, German, Italian and Russian) and Venelin Proykov (French). Then the team grew under the leadership and editing by Ekaterina Dikova and comprised the following translators: Anastasiya Rasheva (Russian, German, French), Veronika Shalagin (Russian, French), Asparuh Velkov (English, French), Laly Todorova (Russian, German), Milena Ivanova (English), Alessandra Bertucelli (Italian) and Christina Taseva (Spanish). The final editing is made by the editorial board dealing also with the MARC 21 translations in Bulgarian: Sabina Aneva, Elka Bogusheva and Bilyana Yavrukova.

The dictionary is now comprising terms used in Understanding MARC Bibliographic, Understanding MARC Authority Records, Understanding MARC Holdings Records and MARC 21 Format for Bibliographic Data. The work on MARC 21 Format for Authority Data is ongoing.
